Christchurch Earthquakes

This week we have been looking at disasters all around New Zealand, we were allowed to choose where and what we wanted to research. Here are some facts and photos from the 6.3 magnitude earthquake in 2010.

gingerbread men

This week me and a group of others have been making gingerbread men to take around to the Granger house, The Granger house is a place where old people who need the most help live. The reason why we made gingerbread men were because in class we have been doing 20% day. 20% day is where we do 80% of our work up until Thursday and get to make something special for others. Another reason was because it is nearly Christmas and we wanted to spread the Christmas joy.

Here are some of the cookies we got inspiration from:

Thank You Letter

This week at school we have been doing some work around our grandparents or our loved ones. The reason why we have been doing work for that is because we had Grandparents day. Grandparents day is when your grandparents are allowed to come to the school and check out your work or just spend some one on one time together. I don't have any grandparents that live near me or are here anymore so I decided to write a thank you letter to my Aunty. I appreciate my Aunty a lot, here is my thank you letter:

What Is A Planet?

This week we have been learning all about planets/mainly Pluto, we had many tasks to complete about Pluto and planets, one of the tasks we had to complete was writing about what a planet is. Here are some of the facts I've found on what a planet is. Enjoy!NASA Solar System Exploration

What is a planet?

A planet is a celestial body, it orbits around the sun and it has sufficient mass for itself-gravity to overcome rigid body forces, so that it assumes a hydro static equilibrium nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

The names of all the planets:Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune.

Pluto is not under the list of all the planets.

What is Hydro static equilibrium? - In fluid mechanics, hydro static equilibrium or hydro static balance is the condition of a fluid or plastic solid when it is still/not moving. This occurs when external forces such as gravity are balanced by a pressure-gradient force and it is moving fast.

Bruno's Diary Entry

For the past few weeks we have been reading a novel in the whole class called "The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas." We had a lot of tasks to complete, individually. The tasks were easy and fun to do. One of the tasks we had to do was write a diary entry from the main character 'Bruno's Perspective. Here is mine :

Dear Dairy, I really badly want to move back to Berlin. I don’t like it here! There is no one to hang out with, no fruit or vegetable stalls, I am so bored! Yesterday, I was so bored I decided to make a swing out of a tyre and tighten the rope around the tree. It didn’t really work out as I was ‘swinging too high.’ And I fell off. I cut my knee and got grazes on my arms.

And now that I’ve moved I have to start school! Me and my annoying sister Gretal are having a teacher over to do lessons in the Mornings and afternoons. I don’t see the point as there’s only two students.

I read these books about exploring, they are really entertaining and they have left me wanting to go exploring for myself!
But overall I feel very bored here!
Yours sincerely, Bruno.

The Boy In The Pyjamas, BookMark.

Another one of the tasks we had to complete was creating your very own bookmark, this task was easy to do and fun to create anything you wanted. This bookmark doesn't look like much but it was actually difficult to line the barb wires up to the edges. Enjoy!

Gretal's Diary - The Boy In The Striped Pajamas.

For the past few weeks we have been reading a novel in the whole class called " The boy in the striped Pyjamas." We had to complete tasks around this book, One of the tasks we had to complete around the book was writing a Diary Entry for Gretal. Gretal was Bruno's older sister. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, I highly recommend you do so! Here is my Diary Entry from Gretal's Perspective. Enjoy!

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - Wikipedia

Dear Diary, Since we’ve moved to Out-with, I’ve been a little bit bored that everyday I arrange my dolls just to fill in time. I wish I had friends to hangout with, although there is someone that I do have in mind that I do like to talk to a lot. Lieutenant Kotler. He is such a handsome man, I have mixed feelings for him but even though I do have a little crush on him, The other night at dinner Pavel, our waiter/chef, looked very pale and weak and he accidentally slipped the bottle out of his hand and spilled it all over Kotler’s lap. Kotler stood up and beat him up. Bruno ended up crying and I was in shock that my face went pale.

Later that week, Bruno was reading a book on his bed. I came in and asked him a few questions about how he was feeling, he is bored as well. The funniest thing happened the next minute! He started rambling on about how he has an imaginary friend. I couldn’t stop laughing! He even believed I had an imaginary friend as well!

But that’s a secret I’ll never tell. Anyways bye for now.

Yours Sincerely, -Gretal.

The Gloomy Forest

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OCuwdAEnBIitTx0hn5Zye0O-dDs7dpf06Py6Tv17C9g/edit

I pushed the tip of my toes into my hiking shoes, squeezing them in and forcing them to fit, knowing they were too small for me as I got ready to explore the forest. I couldn’t tell mum that my shoes were too small or she wouldn’t let me go to the forest at all. I couldn’t even tell her where I was going, she told me to never go in the ‘gloomy forest’ as she would call it. Apparently, there are ‘bad things in there that are dangerous for young girls my age’. I agreed that the forest was bad and I knew it was out of bounds at all times with no exceptions.

But it didn't end there...

Lock down Writing

This week we have been writing stories about what happened in your own lock down, and what your family did. Here is my writing about my lock down. How did your lock down turn out? enjoy.

Life During Lock down - Bailee

Lock down was a very well… How could I put this nicely, ‘exciting adventure with my family’. During the start of lock down, I was extremely excited to hear we didn’t have to go to school for a while. I couldn’t stop thinking about everything I could do in these few weeks away from school. Around the first week of not being at school, I loved being able to sleep in, although that didn’t last long. I enjoyed baking sweet treats for the family, I say for the family but really, I was the one that ate most of them.

I’d always get asked by my parents about where all the baking went, I’d have the same response every time, making something up along the lines of blaming it on my older brother. I would bake all sorts of things like cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and more. My little brother was always in the kitchen looking over my shoulder, licking the icing bowls and slobbering all over the spoons, even when I still needed them, He would classify this as ‘helping.’

I got sick of the idea of baking all the time so I knew I had to find some other ways to entertain myself, at this point I started to miss my friends, and funny enough I even started to miss school. Two weeks into lock down, we were starting to get sent work tasks that we had to complete by the end of the week. I regret telling my mum about work that needed to be finished, she ended up waking me up early in the morning and making sure it was finished by 3 PM.

Every day past 3 PM, I would scroll through Netflix hoping to find a decent movie. I found this series called “YOU.” It had two seasons and I finished that in about a week. When I was up to the last episode of the last season I straight away began to be bored. I was disappointed that it was finished, but also because the next season wasn’t coming out till 2021.

Although lock down was a bit boring, I still enjoyed some of the things I had done. It was good to get away from school for a bit but i'm glad to be back.
